ENR New England has named Clippership Wharf Project of the Year and Best Project, Residential/Hospitality. As Landscape Designer for the project, Halvorson | Tighe & Bond Studio shares this honor with Lendlease Development, The Architectural Team, and many additional project partners.
Clippership Wharf is a resilient multi-family residential development and waterfront destination located on two abandoned wharves in East Boston. Halvorson’s role led to the transformation of the open space to create a variety of passive and active recreation opportunities, with numerous ways to access the water and spectacular views of the Boston skyline. The site is tiered, with the East Boston Harborwalk at the lower level; public access and open spaces at mid-level; and residences and courtyard above. Open spaces and the living shoreline—featuring saltwater marshes, rocky beaches and plentiful wildlife habitats—create a natural flood barrier that protects tenants and other inland properties.
The second phase of Clippership Wharf opened this past Fall and over the course of development, the project has been recognized with several awards including; 2021 Design Merit Award (Boston Society of Landscape Architecture), 2020 Climate Change Project of the Year (Environmental Business Council), and 2020 Excellence on the Waterfront Honor Award (The Waterfront Center).
