Resilient Mixed-Use Development, South Boston, Massachusetts

Halvorson | Tighe & Bond Studio is collaborating with Related Beal and architects KPF to transform a former parking lot overlooking Boston’s Fort Point Channel into a vibrant, resilient mixed-use development.

Serving South Boston’s growing community, the development includes a one-acre park, expansion and program activation of the Harborwalk, improved access to the Fort Point Channel, and a variety of welcoming outdoor spaces for residents, employees, and the public.

Redevelopment of the site also realizes a key component of the 100 Acres Master Plan and Climate Ready South Boston, which highlighted the importance of introducing a new park with an elevated portion to address a critical flood pathway into South Boston. Programming for the park is in development.

Working within several constraints, including building over the I-90 tunnel that bisects the site, the design team created a vision for a complementary series of buildings, pedestrian-friendly spaces, and a resilient new park that will elevate the live/work experience in South Boston.
